Bill George is a German immigrant who came to
Missouri following the 1848 revolution. He loves the union and hates slavery and
slaveholders. He loved Abraham Lincoln even more, supporting him strongly in 1860 and
although he disapproved of Lincolns actions reversing Fremonts order striping
slaveholders of their property, he was overjoyed when at last the Emancipation
Proclamation came. While he doesnt have complete faith in Andrew Johnson, he is
willing to give him a chance to prove himself and supports his actions to readmit the
South to the union and to carry out Reconstruction on a national level. |
