|
| Netty Nutt is a Tennessee Unionist. During the Civil
War, her two brothers ignored her states secessionist vote and joined the Union
Army. Throughout the war, she and other women of her town supported the efforts of those
who fought against the South, even hiding Southern deserters. She admires then Senator and
now President Andrew Johnson both for his decision to remain in Congress and for his
racial attitudes. Netty doesnt trust Congress at all, fearing that Radicals there
will push for full racial equality. She believes that the National Government inspired by
the leadership of Andrew Johnson has the best answers to the problems of Reconstruction. |
