Doug David |

Easy on South, Blacks
few rights, Congress Rec., National |
Doug is badly torn at his appointment to this
convention. A Kentuckian and a former Whig, like his hero, Henry Clay, Doug does not
believe in anything but the most limited rights for the former slaves. Indeed, he had
slaves work in his bagging factory before the war. At the same time he has faith that
Congress will pass the sort of national legislation which will benefit industry and
railroads and spur the overall growth of the American economy. With the South back in the
union, Doug sees himself being economically successful once again |
